BLL Update on 2020 Season

Dear Beverly Little League Community,

Thank you for your continued patience during this time while we explore options for the 2020 spring baseball season.

As you may know, last week Governor Baker announced the phased reopening of businesses and activities in Massachusetts. The Governor’s current plan has youth sports team activities re-starting in Phase III, subject to guidelines yet to be issued and other restrictions.

If the Governor’s current schedule holds, Beverly Little League will not be able to start team activities until around July 1, at the earliest. This date will also depend on additional directives from the Mayor concerning sports in the City and reopening of fields. Although Little League International provides guidance, Beverly Little League must, and will, comply with these local health and safety orders.

While we are all anxious to get out on the fields and start playing baseball, we must follow all governmental orders and health official directives. Even if the state or the City approves opening little league baseball starting in July, the Board will make decisions about our League and playing games that we believe will best serve the health and safety of our players, coaches, fans, and all families.

We understand that this news may be disappointing. Yet, the League is not cancelling the season at this point. The Board will continue to monitor instructions from state and local officials, and guidance from the Little League International and the District. Once play is permitted, whenever that may occur, the Board will explore all options to open a spring season, so long as the Board determines that we can play safely and people remain interested in playing.

We created an anonymous survey to determine interest in participating in league play this year if permitted by the rules to start in July or maybe even August. The Board will use the responses as part of our plans going forward, so we appreciate your taking time to respond.

If we are unable to provide a 2020 season for the players for any reason, we will issue full refunds to all families who signed up for the 2020 season.
